Adjusting

So far we have been here a little over a week and we are getting into the rhythm of things. Its so great to be here to help out the Perkin's. Josh and Trudy have been able to go out on some dates and enjoy the island...without their kids :)

The heat so far hasn't been too bad of a problem, considering the apartment is completely air-conditioned. So its so nice to come home to. Donovan and I feel already feel quite at home, its as if we were meant to be out of our element. We love the food, the culture and the scenery. We get most of our food fresh and local, and it is so fun to cook truly organic! We go and get fresh caught shrimp, and fresh chicken for our meat. Or, my favorite, some delicious homemade tofu! The apples here are unbelievable, and of course so is the mangos, papayas and pineapple!! Its like the Garden of Eden with all the fresh fruits and veggies. Its a health nuts heaven. We eat rice with everything, its cheap to buy and easy to make! However, Malaysia is home to some famous bakeries...and the bread is to die for!

We haven't yet found a church, but we have been taking advantage of Solid Rocks podcasts. Its been great for our marriage, to listen and take notes to the sermons and then discuss and pray with one another. We know God has us here, for a purpose and we already feel the importance being around people who don't know our God. We ask you all for prayer everyday for God to use us, and to be empowered everyday by the Holy Spirit to speak and act in ways that bring glory, and honor to our Christ Jesus. Every morning is a new opportunity when we step out our door, to be lights to the community around us.

Today is our Halloween, and Donovan and I have the penthouse to ourselves! The Perkins are off to a Halloween party with the kids. The boys, Calvin and Wesley are so stoked! Calvin is going as Diego, and Wesley is a cowboy. Soo cute! Wesley has been telling us all day that is in fact Halloween. There is lightening and thunder going on, with some creepy rain falling. Perfect night for candy and some not so spooky movies with my hubby!

Deepavali

Hello again from Malaysia!

These past couple days have sure been quite filled! Donovan and I went out on our own date two nights ago, at a Thai restaurant close to the apartment. Talk about spicy food!!! We got curry chicken, and some lemon tea and we were sweating throughout the dinner. But it was too good not to finish!

Today, is the Indian holiday, Deepavali, which is a holiday celebrating light and happiness. The whole city practically shuts down to celebrate this ancient India holiday. Donovan and I had the morning off and we decided to head into Georgetown to the Penang Museum and we saw some amazing exhibits. There were art pieces and artifacts from China, Thailand, Indonesia, India and of course, native Malaysia. Malaysia is so proud of their beautiful heritage, its so wonderful to be able to soak up this humble culture.

After the museum, Donovan and I headed into "little India" in honor of Deepavali. We had to cross through Chinatown. Those two little towns where so spectacular! We saw Buddhist temples and Hindu temples, along with many stands selling local goods. We found a local Indian cafe, or kaffe, to enjoy authentic Indian cuisine. Yummmy! It even had some dried anchovies to go with it. Super weird to have a dried fish on your plate along with rice. But it was alot of fun and the food (minus the dried lil fishies) was amazing!

Well, tonight we are watching the boys, and Josh and Trudy are heading out on their first date in a long time! And Im finally going to have time to cook dinner! What's on the menu...well of course, rice and chicken!! :) Along with some papaya, starfruit and pineapple for dessert.

So Happy Deepavali my friends! Let us all remember this holiday celebrating light, the True Light, who is really the reason to celebrate. God is good!

Walking into Malaysia

Hello Friends!
Seeing as my husband and I have taken to traveling so early into our marriage, I decided it would be best to start writing about our life, and where we are headed!

So...here we are in a little place called Penang, Malaysia, staying with the Perkin's family and soaking up some South East Asian sunshine! Josh picked us up early Saturday night and we stepped out of the airport into a shower of rain. It was crazy!! I really wish I brought some rain boots here because my goodness, you get soaked! The people here are so nice, even though they don't have any idea what we are saying. We are adjusting to the time change, although we find ourselves waking up at 2am ready to go. Our bodies have not yet adjusted to the 15 hour time change.
We see many opportunities to shine the light of Christ to everyone around us. The main religion here is Muslim  and there is a Mosque almost on every corner, along with some Hindu temples. We pray we can be used by God in this place, where religion takes on the form of rules and rituals. I so wish these beautiful people understood, that the true God doesn't need strict regulations and rules to connect with Him, but rather a loving relationship.

Well, we are quite enjoying our time here and we are looking foreword to the many adventures coming our way. God sure has a plan for our life, we have yet to have a "settled down" feel to our life. Who knows? Maybe we never will!
